Deborah Newey Deborah Newey paints and draws invented places that are domestic-like: rooms with wallpaper, furniture, entrances and exits, full of the things one might find in a home, but they are places that donʼt always fit the logic of the physical world. They are magical worlds that appear unoccupied, yet within these worlds, stories emerge. A strange object lying on a table, the way the light falls across the floor, or the obsessive ornamentation of the wallpaper, comprise narratives that grow out of her fascination with the hidden spaces of our daily lives, our homes, memories, dreams, and perceptions. |
