Matthew Foster is best known for his paintings depicting the workplace, pulling from his previous jobs, he catalogs images from environments that he spent all his time in.  In some cases this is the Weathervane seafood restaurant, and in more recent work it is cubicles in the office spaces depicting life in front of a computer.  Foster has a fascination with awkward color choices from office environments stemming from poor design and layout in buildings where people work. The work also has a focus on people as a commodity, none of the figures are any more or less important than any other aspect of the interior and in some cases they seem less important, just something else filling the space.  Also from the work, you get the sense that no matter what people do to organize their lives things are always still a mess, he often leaves paper on the floor, desks are full of coffee cups and random equipment.
